Integration with NGEMR in Production
Integration with NGEMR
Epic has multiple modules that may fulfill the business requirement. Integration to NGEMR will be an option if the business requirements/workflow cannot be met by Epic’s out-of-the box capability. User workflow and capability of the external systems will be the required input to assess the right integration option. Below is a high-level illustration of external systems integration project with NGEMR.
A. Pre-assessment
-
User champion from the healthcare cluster/MOH/MOHH/MOHT needs to drive the prioritization within his/her cluster.
-
User champion can consult NGEMR team on any new systems that is being considered for a high-level assessment
-
Discuss the business goals with NGEMR and Epic to determine if there is already a feature within NGEMR or Epic module that can meet the needs
-
Epic can support multiple standards e.g. HL7, FHIR API. NGEMR will work with vendor and Epic to evaluate which integration options can meet user workflow as well as the capability of target external systems.
-
Consider potential additional costs e.g. Epic API licensing fee, interface license
In parallel, user champion need to secure budget for the project, covering Capex and Opex, and raise it as a workplan item for cluster internal review and prioritization process
B. Budgeting
-
If this external system is to be adopted by any of the cluster, Cluster Internal Review and Prioritization process must be followed.
-
Assign Synapxe Project Manager (PM) to manage the external system. PM to raise workplan item in BET
-
Workplan raised and require NGEMR support will be prioritized according to certain criteria e.g. National or MOH strategic projects, Support for Operation, cross cluster or cluster strategic projects and general enhancements.
Once demand is approved, the project can proceed to contracting with external systems and with Epic. Implementation starts once the PO is issued, contract is signed off and Synapxe efforts have been assigned to NGEMR team supporting the project.
C. Contracting
-
Secure budget approval and contracting with external systems.
-
Execute any additional contracting with Epic, if required.
D. Implementation
-
PM for the external system to held a kickoff meeting with external system vendor, NGEMR and EPIC to agree on the goals, scope, processes and timeline of the project.
-
PM to also obtain Synapxe Solution Review Board approval and TISO security risk assessment, if required.
-
NGEMR will build based on the agreed requirement scope and support testing with external systems.
-
Go-live.
